Haney LMR/Round Table Time Trial - Harrison qualifies for AAAs; Guraliuk and Rogers qualify for LMR

The Knights ended off the year 2008 with their last competition and the first of our in-house round table meets.

At the Haney LMR a few knights from the development 2, junior 1 and junior 2 groups braved the first snowfall to attend the meet.  Kayla Harrison (junior 2) qualified for winter AAAs in the 200 Fly for 11 year olds.  Other notable performances were done by David Ceotto (development 2) who took off 18 seconds from his 200 IM a month ago, Hannah Wong (junior 1) adding the 100 free to her event list at AAs, and Andrew Yeung (junior 2) who broke the 1:10 barrier in the 100 Fly with a 1:09.40 which places him as one of the fastest 12 year olds in the country in that event!

At the Round Table, we had 77 of our knights participate in our in-house meet where all groups get to race with each other and gave the opportunity for some swimmers to go for various standards ranging from the LMR standard through to age group nationals.  There were many great swims done by swimmers in all groups.  Sarah Guraliuk and Danielle Rogers (development 1) both broke the 4:00 barrier in the 200 IM qualifying them for LMR competitions.  Other notable performances were done by Ivor Ostojic (senior) who came within .03 of the 16 year old age group standard and Natalie Archutowski (junior 1) who took off 7 seconds in her 200 breast coming even closer to her 13 year old AAA standard.

Next up for the Knights is the SFU/Gator LMR Jan 10/11 and the Hyack Ice Breaker Jan 17/18.

Richmond Fast Swim - Elsinga and Chee qualify for age groups

The senior and junior 2 groups had a strong showing this weekend at the Richmond Fastswim to end off their competitions for 2008.

Katie Elsinga (senior) was on fire, qualifying not only for her AAAs for 15 year olds, but getting two 15 year old age group national cuts in the 50 Fly and 50 Back and a western qualifying standard in the 50 Fly. Also qualifying for age groups was Lester Chee (junior 2) in the 200 breast for 13 year olds.

Lucas Ng (junior 2) also had a great weekend qualifying for winter AAAs in the 50 free for 13 year olds and Caroline Doerksen (junior 2) qualified for AAs for 13 year olds as well.

Lily Ann Diep (senior) and Andrew Yeung (junior 2) had a busy weekend, winning both the 100 and 200 distances in the back and fly respectively, just shy of their age group national cuts.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who medalled over the weekend:

Lily Ann Diep (14) – 1st 100 back, 1st 200 back, 3rd 200 IM, 3rd 400 IM

The development 1 swimmers were in the water this past Saturday in Chilliwack for the second PASS meet of the season.  We had 18 swimmers make the trek out to Chilliwack and some even witnessed a big pot-belly pig on the side of the highway!  We saw many great swims and saw lots of improvements in both times and technique.
