BC AAA Provincial Championships: 4 New Age Group Qualifiers

Our final championship meet of this cycle brought us to Victoria for the BC Age Group Championships. Overall our small team placed 14th, moving up from 19th last season.

Elvis Lam was the ironman of the weekend, making finals in all his events. He won two silver medals in the 11 & under boys 100 and 200 breast, 4th place in the 50 free and 200 back, 5th place in the 100 free and 6th in the 100 back.

We also saw 4 swimmers reach their age group national standards this past weekend. Hayden Gilmore had an outstanding weekend, qualifying for age group nationals for 14 year olds in three events while also making multiple finals. He won bronze in the 200 breast, 6th in both the 200 and 400 IM, and 8th in the 1500 free for 13 year old boys. Dani Dal Cengio from lane 8 came third in the 14 year old boys 100 breast on route to qualifying for age group nationals for 15 year olds. On the women’s side, Ralie Gasler and Emily Diggle both qualified for age group nationals for 12 and under girls. Ralie qualified in the 800 free and 400 free, while Emily qualified in the 200 fly.

Here’s a summary of our finalists:
Elvis Lam – 2nd 200 breast, 2nd 100 breast, 4th 50 free, 4th 100 bk, 6th 100 free
Hayden Gilmore – 3rd 200 breast, 6th 400IM, 6th 200IM, 8th 1500 free
Dani Dal Cengio – 3rd 100 breast, 7th 200 fly
Ralie Gasler – 5th 800 free, 7th 400 free, 8th 100 free
Carly Guraliuk – 5th 100bk
Lester Chee – 6th 100 breast
Emily Diggle – 6th 200 Fly
Andrew Yeung – 6th 200 fly
Lily Ann Diep – 7th 100bk, 7th 400IM
Kayla Harrison – 7th 800 free, 8th 200 Fly
