New Member Information for 2009/2010 Season

Assessment Dates and Times

7:30pm Tuesday or Thursday

Applicants MUST contact the Registrar at registrar@surreyknights.com to sign up for an assessment.  There is a $10 fee for assessments.

During the assessment, a parent must be present.

After the assessment, a coach will advise the Registrar what group the swimmer was assessed at and the Registrar will explain the fee structure/commitment level.

Please note: There will be a $10 non-refundable assessment fee due at time of assessment.

If you HAVE been assessed already, please pre-register online in the group suggested to you.

All new members to the Surrey Knights Swim Club must be assessed.

There are two types of assessment. The first assessment is for new swimmers who have no previous competitive swimming experience, have not attended a Surrey Knights summer program, or who have not achieved a level of under 4:00 in the 200m IM and 5:40 in the 300m Freestyle. (Swimmers who have attend a SKSC Summer Program will not be required to complete a New Swimmer Assessment.) For more information see New Swimmer Assessment below.

The second type of assessment is for swimmers who have had competitive swimming experience and can swim under 4:00 IM in the 200 IM and 5:40 in the 300m Freestyle. For more information see Experienced Swimmers Assessment below.

New Swimmer Assessment

New Swimmers must attend a New Swimmer Assessment. The assessments are offered several times per season, and proceed the start of the sessional Introductory Level programs.

To be eligible for assessment swimmers must be at least 6 years of age and able to swim 50m of over arm front crawl unassisted and tread water for 30 seconds.  Typically this matches with Red Cross Lessons Level 6.

A new swimmer assessment is a 15 minute session for the swimmers, followed by 15 minute parent information and registration. Participants must be in attendance for the complete session.

During an assessment swimmers will be introduced to the program, its coaches, and the world of competitive swimming. Coaches will also evaluate the swimmers skills and, based on swimming ability and age, will recommend group placement for the season.

To schedule an assessment please contact us by email or phone  with your name and phone number.

Please note that registration is space permitting. The Surrey Knights will attempt to accommodate all swimmers, but should your group be full, you will be placed onto a wait list. Swimmers on wait lists may still be eligible to participate in Swim Camps offered throughout the season. You will be contacted by the club once a space opens.  Successful candidates will be eligilble for a 1-week free trial.

Experienced Swimmers Assessment

Swimmers with previous swimming experience must also be assessed. Unlike the New Swimmer Assessment, registration for experienced swimmers is ongoing.
To be eligible for a transfer to the Surrey Knights Swim Club, swimmers must:

  • Be a member of good standing with their previous club
  • Complete a Swim BC Transfer form

The swimmer and parents will be required to meet with the Head Coach and may or not require a swim assessment. Successful applicants will be eligible for a one week free trial with the Surrey Knights Swim Club.

Please contact the registrar by email or phone with your name and phone number if you are interested in joining our program
